When We Heal Women

Updated: Aug 9

Sometimes I come across something…a podcast, a book, a piece of music, and it reminds me deeply of something I already knew which had been buried. It’s like lifting up a leaf and noticing, oh, there is a mushroom under there!

So I came across this podcast, it’s an interview with Guido Masé who is an herbalist and a deep thinker. He talked about consciousness and how we are all linked by it, humans, plants, animals, the earth itself, the cosmos. In this exploration he emphasizes how crucial it is to our experience on earth to take plants and mushrooms in, through food, through medicine, with all of our senses. That this experiencing is greater than any knowing. I love the way this idea feels in my body. It is such a good reminder of how important it is to stay connected with all of the things every day.

You know when you have a thought and you don’t even believe it but it arises in your field of consciousness like an answer on a magic 8 ball?  If you zoom out, we can see that perhaps this thought was not generated by you, as an individual, but by the collective consciousness. It’s nice when these thoughts grace you with gentle epiphanies, but other times you may find yourself fighting with a cultural narrative that you don’t even believe.

In my own life as a woman, a mother, a healer, negative messages do arise. Most often these are about my value in society or about how my body looks or about how I don’t have my shit together. Rudely, they tend to arise first thing in the morning before I even open my eyes to greet the day. Perhaps this is a vulnerable time in consciousness, the liminal space in between sleep and awake, and so it is how they find their way through.

In life we have many opportunities to choose the light or sink into the darkness. This morning was one of those moments for me, and as I fought to choose the light I said to myself, “don’t let these untrue cultural stories keep you down, because then you are just adding to the power of the patriarchy.”

Fair, and a good step. My next thought was, “wait a second, this doesn't feel like my thought!" Let us continue to rewrite the story every day through our thoughts and actions. We know that we are powerful, creative, wildly intelligent beings who can choose light and love and who can stand in that power and say for certain…I belong here. I am enough. I know why I came here and I won’t back down or ever stop fighting for what is true.

Take this in…When we heal women we heal the planet. When we heal women we heal the planet, our first mother, our ever giving ever taking away ever strong ever vulnerable fucking beautiful mother earth. This is why I came here.
