Microdosing 101

Curious about this practice? Read on!

The whole idea behind microdosing is so much more than the internet would have you believe.  Even if you’ve had friends who have shared their own journey, yours will surely be different. In striking similarity to what level of information one can obtain from googling anything herbal medicine, what’s on top is only worth skimming off. Likewise, when we compare ourselves to others we can end up drawing conclusions that don’t reflect the depth and complexity of our own experience. Like any worthwhile pursuit, microdosing is a well honed relationship steeped in nuance. Relationship. Between plants and people, mycelium and consciousness, consciousness and evolution of the human mind and spirit.

Let us not be seduced by the western medical paradigm of a one shot cure. Enter: the divine feminine. Enveloping many realms and offering simple truths. The divine masculine can surround this energetic, protect it, and allow it to emerge. Both energies are needed to create a whole and balanced terrain. In essence, peace. Spaciousness. A platform, or a home, that is the very soil of a fertile garden.

The truth is that ritualizing the seemingly trivial is in fact spirituality. While heroic doses of psychedelics have their place, and with the appropriate set and setting they can have life changing effects on awareness of the depth of our experience in this lifetime. In contrast the daily tasks that are involved in self-care, parenting, caring for our loved ones and community, and expressing our authenticity in our actions and words are really what keeps us grounded in these bodies in this time and place. This is what feels to me such a relevant practice in connection. If slow food would have an analogous counterpart, microdosing would be it. Underrated for its lack of sensationalism, this practice is a genuine remedy.

Is this practice easy? No. Worthwhile? Yes. Enriching? Yes. A step towards saving ourselves and the planet? Yes. A step towards healing generations backwards and forwards, YES.

Allowing the medicine to teach, share wisdom, and blossom in its acceptance is a process best left alone by our analytical minds. Because, dear friends, our minds do not and should not run the show. The innate wisdom of our bodies is allowed a voice through this mycelial, connecting medicine. In conjunction with guidance, microdosing can be a powerful catalyst for change, and in the most beautiful way possible. Unlike full on journey dosages of psilocybin, this trajectory offers us ample time to integrate the intelligent wisdom that is brought to the surface of consciousness slowly. And for those of us deeply devoted to our intimate relationships with people, including parenting our children, romantic relationships, and deep sisterhood and brotherhood relationships, the pace and rhythm of this work allows us to tend to those connections in profound ways.

A mindful microdosing practice can help us feel more comfortable being vulnerable, which is a necessary part of true intimacy. The slow and subtle cultivation of relationship with mushroom medicine can also help us to do our work in the world more authentically. In essence, this involves remembering why we came here, our divine purpose. Which includes doing nothing! Just being is enough, it really is. Everything else is icing on the cake of our divinity. Enjoy all the benefits of being in a human body! Connect with your senses, devour the juicy peach and breathe deeply the fresh air, touch the earth, marvel at the clouds, listen to the river.

With radical acceptance, love, devotion, and curiosity.
